About the event

Black communities are often spoken of as one, yet the lived experiences of African-born students or staff and those born into the diaspora (Afro-Caribbean, African-American, British Black, etc.) are complex and distinct. This event invites open and honest dialogue about identity, misunderstanding, and unity within the Black community. The evening begins with a panel discussion featuring a mix of African and diaspora-born speakers who will reflect on their experiences of belonging, the tension around authenticity, and the possibilities for solidarity. The panel aims to unpack historical, cultural, and generational differences while imagining new ways of connecting across the Black Atlantic.
